December 15, 2014

Dear Students, Parents, Community Residents, and Business Owners;

Moore Middle School is competing in the Samsung Solve for Tomorrow Challenge. Read more or download (pdf). Our project has earned us the State of Georgia winner’s title and we are now in Phase Three of the challenge. Part of the competition includes getting our community involved in our project.

To briefly summarize our project, during the month of January 2015, we will implement a STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) based project to improve the air quality surrounding Moore Middle School and our community. Our project has embedded several community involvement events and this is where we need your support. Your participation will require little effort.

We are asking that you support our Breathe "Moore" Quality Air" project by participating in the following events:

  • January 5 to February 6 – Mobile Device Recycling Drive: Help reduce land fill waste by responsibly recycling used or donated mobile devices (smartphones, tablets, and laptop computers) that contains harmful parts that release toxic wastes in the soil, water, and atmosphere. This drive also supports our "Bring It" – BYOD Program (Bring Your Own Device) Read morewatch video
  • January 18 - 24 - Moore Middle School Carpooling Pledge Week: Pledge to carpool to: work, school, sporting events, walk, or ride a bicycle.) Sign Up your Pledge Here

SPECIAL THANK YOU TO THE RICOH CORPORATION

Earlier this week, the Ricoh Corporation located in Duluth donated a large amount of school supplies that will be put to very good use by our students and teachers.  Based on the efforts of Ms. Laura Polo, Ms. Sharon Hillman, and several other Ricoh representatives the donated supplies were presented to our school this past Tuesday.  We appreciate Ricoh’s generosity in helping our school remain “Anchored in Excellence”.

2014-2015 Parent Information

Dear Moore Middle School Families,

The 2013-2014 school year proved to be another great year for Moore Middle School. We are pleased to acknowledge that our students showed marked improvement in almost every area of the CRCT once again. To help us stay on our path of excellence, we have planned an Open
House/Registration for Thursday, July 31, 2014 during the following hours:

  • 11:30-1:30 6th Grade Open House
  • 2:30-4:00 7th Grade Open House
  • 5:00-6:30 8th Grade Open House

If your child attended Lawrenceville Elementary, Winn Holt Elementary, or Moore Middle last year you should be pre-registered to attend Moore Middle School. At the Open House you will have the opportunity to learn your children’s homeroom and team assignments, meet your children’s teachers, verify important information (address, phone number, medical information, immunizations, etc.), learn about bus routes, pre-pay for lunches, purchase P.E. shirts and school spiritwear, as well as join the PTA. This year we are encouraging Moore Middle School parents to use an on-line service to pay for student lunches, join PTA, and make voluntary contributions to the school. You may use the following link to take care of your contributions prior to take care of your contributions: https://mypaymentsplus.com/
In the event you are not able to complete the form online, we will have paper copies available at Open House.

Please find the following information included in this communication:
Moore Middle School general information; supply list; and a link to the Moore Middle School homepage where school clinic forms and other relevant information can be found.

Finally, we are expecting 1000 students to be in their seats at 9:20 am on our first day of school, Tuesday, August 5, 2014. In the meantime, please enjoy the rest of your summer and we hope to see you at our Open House on Thursday, July 31, 2014 during the appointed time. I am looking forward to working with you and your families this school year.

Thank you for your commitment to our educational community.

Sincerely,

Lamont Mays
Principal

Weather can be unpredictable and an uncertain weather forecast on the late night news is not the time to start thinking about inclement weather and its impact on our schools and offices. Take a minute to refamiliarize yourself with the "how" and "why" when it comes to GCPS and bad weather.
